Where They Got Them

Mississippi and Florida supplied the bulk of this class -- 14 of the 22 to be exact. All four of the nationally-ranked prospects hail from those two states. Like most Rebel classes, this one is focused on Southeastern talent. In fact, of the nine "SEC" states, Houston Nutt landed a player from seven of them (Kentucky and South Carolina were not used).

Alabama and Georgia offered a pair a piece while Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana and Virginia sent one each to Oxford.

The Scouting Report

Nine of the 22 total signees are headed to the offensive side of the ball. The lone quarterback of the group is junior college All-American Randall Mackey (6-foot, 190). The smallish signal-caller is a two-time NJCAA Region 23 MVP and led the nation with 3,122 yards and a 69.5 completion percentage. He is undersized but is a great athlete and has been incredibly productive in his time in the junior college ranks.

A trio of ball carriers will attempt to help fill the void left by superstar Dexter McCluster. Jeff Scott (5-foot-8, 170) has a similar build and skill set to that of McCluster while Nicholas Parker (6-foot-2, 210) brings size and power. Parker claimed 6A Offensive Player of the Year honors by the Mississippi Association of Coaches as a senior. Martez Eastland (6-foot, 235) is one of the top fullback prospects in the nation.

Wide receiver Vincent Sanders is considered the second best player in this class. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder scored 13 touchdowns his final season despite missing four games with an injury. Quadarias Mireles (5-foot-11, 175) is a different type of player but is great with the ball in his hands. Cordell Giles (6-foot-3, 235) is the lone tight end in the class.

Three offensive lineman bring excellent size to the blocking corp of the Rebels. Jared Duke (6-foot-6, 325) was a 5A first team All-State selection in Tennessee while Terrence Hackney (6-foot-4, 320) spent the last year honing his craft at Hargrave Military Academy. Both have giant frames and will be playing tackle. Chase Hughes (6-foot-3, 290) is smaller -- relatively speaking -- and is headed to the interior to play guard.

On defense, the end position got the most talent in the 2010 class. Two of the three new faces were nationally-ranked prospects in Carlos Thompson and Delvin Jones. These are two of the top four players in this class. Jones posted 16 sacks as senior in a high level of competition in Dade County (Miami, Fla.). Thompson claimed U.S. Army All-American honors and brings the best size to the table at 6-foot-5. He posted 186 tackles and 25 sacks over his last two season at Simmons. Bryon Bennett (6-foot-2, 250) rounds out the trio but could end up playing tackle should he bulk up a bit.

Carlton Martin (6-foot-2, 270) is the only tackle listed in this class by Ole Miss currently.

Two linebackers, Clarence Jackson and Ralph Williams, bring excellent athleticism to the tackling corps. Jackson (6-foot-2, 218) actually rushed for 1,954 yards as a senior and 1,800 as a junior. He totaled 63 TDs over that span. Williams (6-foot-1, 220) racked up 170 tackles and 36 sacks over his final two seasons at Southridge.

The defensive back class might be the deepest of any position for Ole Miss. Five new names playing two different positions help bolster the Rebel secondary. Tony Grimes, Eric Mitchell, Cedric Smith and Cliff Coleman restock the cornerback position. All four are listed at 5-foot-10 and roughly 170 pounds. Brishen Mathews (6-foot-1, 190) is the lone safety of the group. Mathews earned Arkansas Mr. Football honors (ArkansasVarsity.com) and claimed the Southeast Arkansas Defensive Player of the Year title after a stellar senior campaign. He also won the 2009 State Farm 5A Defensive Player of the Year as well. Undoubtedly, Nutt's experience and history with the Razorback State paid off when recruiting this outstanding safety.
